The Concept
For thousands of years, cultures across the Pacific, Southeast Asia, and beyond have gathered around botanical brews — kava shared from a communal bowl in Fiji, kratom leaf brewed by farmers in Indonesia, tea ceremonies from China to Morocco. These drinks were never just beverages. They were the reason people sat down together.
House of Roots brings that tradition to Denver in a format everyone already understands: a café. Bright, clean, and comfortable — a place to work through the afternoon, unwind after work, or have a real conversation without shouting over a bar crowd. Our drinks relax the body and open up conversation, with no hangover and no pressure to drink alcohol.
A growing wave of kava and kratom bars across the Denver metro has proven the demand. Our focus is on doing it with more polish: a calmer, better-designed room, coffee-shop pricing, and a staff whose first job is making these drinks approachable for people trying them for the very first time.
The Space
Designed like the café you already love: warm wood, plants, natural light, and seating that works as well at 10 a.m. as it does at 9 p.m.
Fast wifi, plenty of outlets, and tables meant for laptops. Teas and maté that keep you focused without the coffee jitters.
The kava bar is the heart of the room — pull up a stool, get a shell, and meet somebody. It's how these drinks have always worked.
A quick counter and bottled cooler near the door for regulars on the move — morning tea on the way to work, kava on the way home.
Why Now
Kava and kratom bars are one of the fastest-growing hospitality categories in the country, and several are already thriving across the Denver metro. The category works; guests keep coming back daily.
Younger adults are drinking less every year, but they still want somewhere to go. Sober-curious guests, remote workers, and anyone tired of bar culture currently have almost nowhere designed for them after 5 p.m.
Most existing spots grew from counterculture roots. House of Roots is built café-first: brighter design, simpler menu language, lower prices, and staff trained to guide complete newcomers — a bigger tent for the same great drinks.

Operationally, House of Roots looks like a tea café: espresso-machine-scale equipment, no fryers, no grease traps, no commercial hood, and no liquor license. Buildout is light — a bar counter, seating, and finishes — which is why we're prioritizing spaces with ADA-compliant entries and restrooms already in place.
As a neighbor, we bring steady daily traffic from morning through evening, a calm guest profile, and a concept that complements coffee, fitness, wellness, and food co-tenants rather than competing with them.
